Southbroom Village
SUB TROPICAL PARADISE
Southbroom is situated on the Hibiscus Coast of KwaZulu-Natal on South Africa's east coast about 120 kilometres south of Durban and approximately seventy five minutes drive from Durban International Airport.
Southbroom retains a village atmosphere, yet is only minutes away from everything needed to make life pleasant and enjoyable.
The village surrounds one of the best golf courses on the Hibiscus Coast and is situated between the Mbizane River to the north and the Umkobi River in the south.
Southbroom Village is one of the jewels of the South African coastline with a tidal pool, protected bathing beach, rocky bays with unspoiled dunes and areas of natural forest. A Nature Trail 'Bush Buck Trial' through the sub tropical vegetation is a delight.
Few coastal villages can boast easy access along the full extent of their coastline. Even fewer can boast that their natural heritage has not given way to high-rise hotels and apartment blocks.
Southbroom enjoys a 4 kilometre sandy Indian Ocean beach frontage and has protected its coastal bush with passion. The green lungs provided by the well-known Southbroom Golf Club, Frederika Nature Preserve and 350,000 m2 of township land zoned to conservation, enhance the lush green tropical paradise that nestles between the Mbizane and Umkobi Rivers.
Southbroom boasts two recognized swimming beaches and the coastal walk between them is truly spectacular thanks to the pristine condition of the primary dunes. Its tidal pool further ensures that the needs of every beach lover is satisfied.
The village also boasts a tennis and bowls club, several fine restaurants and local shops and a supermarket for everyday needs. More comprehensive shopping is provided by the nearby towns of Ramsgate, Margate and Shelly Beach with two large shopping malls.
Southbroom has active community initiatives that co-ordinate to ensure that the civic pride, value and lifestyle pleasures of the village are protected and maintained.
The KZN South Coast is a malaria free area and enjoys a sub-tropical climate with an average temperature of 23°C. Winter temperatures rarely fall below 10°C in the evenings and the summers, although humid, rarely exceed 27°C. Between the months of October and March the area receives its highest rainfall.
